Steps To A Perfect Keratin Treatment

Keratin treatments prove to be an easy way to deal with dull, dry and frizzy hair and make them smooth and shiny. But have you ever wondered how the magic actually happens?

We have broken down the steps for you that actually take place in order to achieve long-lasting smooth, shiny, de-volumized, frizz free hair.

Step 1: Hair Cleansing

The first step that takes place with this treatment is hair wash. We make sure that the hair is absolutely clean. We want the hair free from any impurities. An important point to note is that conditioner is not used in this particular wash. In this step, a purifying pH+ shampoo is used. We attempt to move the nature of the hair from acidic to more alkaline. This makes the hair cuticles swell up which in turn help in the proper penetration of the product. Other products like conditioner tend to seal the cuticles and that hinders the absorption of the keratin mask.

Step 2: Application of Keratin Mask

Following the wash, the hair is dried. It is of utmost importance that the hair is completely dry before the treatment application. This is because wet hair dilutes the keratin mask and can affect the results of this treatment.  The hair is then parted from the middle and divided into sections. The product is evenly applied to the sectioned hair.

Step 3: Let your Hair Set In

The product is left to set in for about 20 to 30 minutes. This is basically the amount of time in which the hair goes through the oxidation process. The hair is then thoroughly rinsed with cold water and using a towel, the excess water is squeezed out.

Step 4: Blow Dry and Flat Iron

The hair is then blow dried, following which, a flat iron is used to make sure that the product penetrates deeper into the cuticles.

And voila! There you have a perfect keratin treatment!!!

Step 5: Post Treatment Care

Keratin treatment also requires some post-treatment care. We recommend that you do not tie your hair and visit the salon within 2-3 days of the keratin treatment for your first hair wash. This extra care allows for the keratin treatment to penetrate the hair and give you long lasting results. Further, your hairstylist will recommend that you use sulphate and paraben free shampoo and conditioner for lasting effects of the treatment. The treatment usually lasts for up to 3-5 months depending how good the post-treatment care is done at home. It is advised to avoid oiling or washing hair with hard water as it tends to break the protein layer that the treatment creates.
